thumbapps.org Launchy Portable, The Open Source Keystroke Launcher!
"Launchy (free/donationware) makes it easy to quickly launch programs. Some included plugins extend the utility's out-of-the-box capabilities... Technical users will get the most out of Launchy's more advanced features, but it's a useful tool even without changing a thing." —Erik Larkin, pcworld.com (July 02, 2010 01:41 AM PT)
"Looking for a comprehensive replacement to the Windows Superbar? ...some software developers feel that Microsoft could do even better, and one tool aims to build upon the Windows desktop interaction with even more efficiency." —Matthew Nawrocki, techrepublic.com (February 14, 2013, 3:59 AM PST)
"Project looks dead. Bugs are being ignored, no development in two years. Good project as it is, but this needs to be forked by a new maintainer." —jmomo (a user), sourceforge.net/projects/launchy/reviews (03/26/2012)

Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator/PAL, PortableApps.com Installer/PAI.

  1. We'll use the 32/64 bit edition as example, you can infer from this example to upgrade the 32 bit only edition.
  2. Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
  3. Get the latest Launchy release—both 32 and 64 bit installers.
  4. Get the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable—both 32 and 64 bit basic packages.
  5. Put the installers in the same folder as the extracted template, in our example C:\0TEST, then extract the installer by following this guide.
  6. Move the extracted 32 bit {app} folder to C:\0TEST\LaunchyPortable\App and rename it to Launchy, Move {app} to appdir...
    then do the same with the extracted 64 bit {app} folder but now rename it to Launchy64 folder.
  7. Delete Launchy.ini files both from App\Launchy and App\Launchy64 folders. We've already have it in the App\DefaultData folder.
  8. Update App\AppInfo\eula.txt with App\Launchy\license.txt content.
  9. Extract Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (32 bit) package into App\Launchy, Add MSVC++ Redist. to appdir...
    Add MSVC++ Redist. to appdir (2)...
    and the 64 bit package into App\Launchy64 folder.
  10. Browse to LaunchyPortable\App\AppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. 2.10.79.0 not just 2.10.79,
     [Version]
     PackageVersion=2.10.79.0
     DisplayVersion=2.10.79 (32/64) bit

  11. Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:\0TEST\LaunchyPortable, and click Go—a new launcher will be created, Create new launcher
  12. Test the new launchers by following this guide.
  13. When all is OK, then delete the LaunchyPortable\Data folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:\0TEST\LaunchyPortable, and click Go—to create the installer package. Create installer
  14. Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Don't forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
  15. If you find any changes that's not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.

Portability Notes
