ISO Workshop is a free software, which enables you to make ISO images, extract specific files and folders from disc images, create disc backups by copying disc contents to an ISO or BIN image file, convert different disc image files into the ISO or BIN format and, of course, burn ISO and CUE/BIN images to blank CD, DVD and Blu-ray Discs.

DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release

Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, Launcher Generator/PAL, Installer/PAI.

  1. Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
  2. Get the latest ISO Workshop release.
  3. Put it in the same folder as the extracted template, in our example C:\0TEST, then extract the installer by following this guide.
  4. Move License.rtf file from the extracted C:\0TEST\isoworkshop_[version]\embedded folder to isoworkshop_[version]\{app} folder.
  5. Move all of isoworkshop_[version]\{app} folder contents to C:\0TEST\ISOWorkshopPortable\App\ISOWorkshop folder, Move extracted binaries to appdir...
  6. Find all *.lng files in App\ISOWorkshop folder and move them to App\ISOWorkshop\lang folder, Find all lng files...
    Move language files...
  7. Update the App\AppInfo\eula.txt with the latest App\ISOWorkshop\License.rtf.
  8. Browse to ISOWorkshopPortable\App\AppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. not just 8.3.0 nor 8.3,
  9. Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:\0TEST\ISOWorkshopPortable, and click Go—a new launcher will be created, Create new launcher
  10. Test the new launchers by following this guide.
  11. When all is OK, then delete the ISOWorkshopPortable\Data folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:\0TEST\ISOWorkshopPortable, and click Go—to create the installer package. Create installer
  12. Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Don't forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
  13. If you find any changes that's not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.
Quick and Dirty Update
  1. Make sure you exit ISO Workshop portable cleanly—check that no PortableApps.comLauncherRuntimeData-ISOWorkshopPortable.ini file in the Data folder.
  2. Delete files in App\ISOWorkshop and App\ISOWorkshop\lang folders.
  3. Do step 3-6 in the "DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release" above.
  4. Done.

Portability Notes

  • ISO Workshop do not have portable mode. It stores its settings in Windows data folders and writes non essential data to Windows registry while running.
  • Make sure it exits cleanly before plugging out your thumbdrive.
  • You can help by sending request to the official developer to add "portable mode" to their future release.
